Vera Rubin
Vera Rubin, born in 1928, was passionate about astronomy from childhood and faced discrimination to become a pioneering astrophysicist*. Her work on the rotation of galaxies revealed dark matter*, revolutionising cosmology*.
At a time when gender equality and accessible knowledge are crucial issues, this site provides a space for information, reflection, and discovery. It invites you to explore (or rediscover) the overlooked women scientists, to think about how their contributions have sometimes been erased, using Vera Rubin’s story as an example, and to celebrate the diversity of women’s achievements and career paths.
This site may contain words that are difficult to understand, but don't panic! We have a glossary page that lists words that are too technical and need a little explanation! These words are marked with an asterisk (*).
